About

The goal and intent of “Losing Daylight” is to offer a thoughtful view of our world, and the world to come. My name is Rick Dean. I am a biblical laymen, not a professional theologian. I have no agenda other than expressing my thoughts on the current state of Christianity and the world in which we live. I am no expert, and would never claim to be one.

In Alaska, as the summer wanes, the loss of daylight becomes increasingly evident. Often times you can hear people say, “We’re losing daylight!” No phrase better exemplifies the world in which we are currently living. Anyone who seems to think the state of the world is improving is either naive, or perhaps delusional. We all know there is something coming – some hope for a utopia, but most remain quite sure something far more sinister is on the horizon. Let’s face it – we are losing daylight.

It is my hope that “Losing Daylight” will offer a fresh and challenging perspective on our current course. As a believer, I am compelled to take the prophecies and warnings of scripture seriously. I am also compelled to be prepared, for we know not when our redemption will arrive.

I am a “creed” believer – the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed. Both creeds summarize the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. I believe it has been to the great detriment of the modern church that these creeds have been mostly ignored, and in some cases completely forgotten. When the creeds were established the majority of believers were illiterate, and memorizing the creeds provided believers with a firm biblical foundation to stand against manipulative doctrine, espoused by false teachers and charlatans. Much room exists for doctrinal discussion and differences among believers, but the tenants of these two creeds cannot be questioned. Again, there exist many issues on which we can debate, but the essential truths of Christianity, established in these two creeds, cannot and should not be challenged.

I am a biblical laymen. I am not a prophet, and will never claim to be, or desire to be. I am, however, a believer in the living God – Who was, Who is and Who is to come. Amen – Come quickly Lord Jesus.
